Chambers of commerce and chambers of commerce and industry began their history in 1599 when city authorities of Marseilles in France appointed a commission consisting of 4 merchants as an advisory body. Since that time, chambers of commerce and chambers of commerce and industry (CCI) began to be created in all cities of France, and later on all over the world.

The onset of more than eighty years history of the Kharkov Chamber of Commerce and Industry was given in 1925 when the Eastern Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in the city. Later on it was called a Division of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, “Kharkovvneshservice” Company, and since April of 1995 it is called the Kharkov Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The activities of chambers of commerce and industry are aimed at promotion of entrepreneurship development in the country and its regions, help in establishment of business cooperation between national and foreign partners, sales market expansion for the goods and services.

The chambers of practically all countries comprise a third (independent) party certifying quality of the goods and their origin for export supplies.

The Kharkov Chamber of Commerce and Industry covers more than 300 industrial enterprises, research and design organizations, manufacturing and commercial companies of different kinds of ownership (state, public and private ones). All the members of the Kharkov Chamber of Commerce and Industry are simultaneously members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a non-governmental self-governing organization combining on a voluntary basis business entities of Kharkov Region, irrespective of forms of ownership. The main functions of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry include:

• Promotion of development of foreign economical relations, export of Ukrainian goods and services, rendering practical help to business community in conducting commercial and economical transactions;

• Provision of reference and information services relating to activities of Ukrainian and foreign business;

• Provision of services for promotion of commercial activities of foreign companies and organizations;

• Legal support in economical activities both in Ukraine and abroad;

• Consideration of cases by constantly functioning Arbitration Court;

• Issue of certificates of origin and conducting of expert examinations of quality and quantity of the goods;

• Services on translation from foreign languages into Russian and Ukrainian and from Russian and Ukrainian into foreign languages;

• Preparation and execution of documentation for obtaining certificates of assignment of international system bar codes;

• Publishing of “Herald of Chamber of Commerce and Industry” magazine, image articles, advertising materials and quotations;

• Services of customs brokers.

At present, the Kharkov Chamber of Commerce and Industry cooperates actively with chambers of commerce and industry of foreign countries, with which we have the appropriate agreements, as well as with international legal companies, which provide for enterprises the possibility to improve efficiency of management of credit and financial markets and offer the optimum solutions for prevention of non-payment risks, with consideration of peculiarities of each country.

Within international business, it is often necessary to make sure that the partner is reliable. For this purpose, the Register of Reliable Partners is provided by common efforts of Ukrainian chambers. The data from this Register can be sent to commercial partners on request. This makes the relations between the business partners more civilized and safe.

Our modern quickly changing world requires for adequate actions of entrepreneurs and chambers of commerce and industry. The way to success consists in uniting our efforts. We are always ready for this!
